Advanced DVD Rip and Burn is a multi-function free tool that combines ripping, transcoding, and burning capabilities. For the ripping process, it supports a large variety of output video and audio codecs, including MOV, AVI, MPEG, and Ogg. Its burning functionality allows you to write data onto any recordable and re-writable media, including CD, DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu-ray, from either an ISO file or your own selection of files and folders.
This tool integrates two completely different interfaces, as if in fact they were two different tools. Ripper first. Once loaded, the DVD Ripper interface offers you comprehensive information about the disc contents. It tells you about the compression rate used, the aspect ratio, the TV system, and the DVD region, among other useful data. It will automatically select the main feature in the disc, though you can always decide which of the existing video streams you wish to rip and convert. When chapters exist, the program will show you a list of them, though it will rip the whole video regardless of which chapters you leave unchecked. The settings dialog will allow you to choose among the supported video containers, as well as your preferred scale and bit rate. The same is true for the audio settings, where you can select the most adequate bit and sample rates. The program will always offer you a set of default values, which are usually enough to achieve high quality of the output file.
The DVD Burner interface is actually a wizard that will comfortably guide you through the whole process of burning discs. It supports both SPTI and ASPI SCSI transport types, which makes it compatible with most (if not all) Windows-based systems. It will automatically detect which type of disc you want to use, and offer you a set of options according to its capacity and its recording possibilities. Re-writable media can be erased before burning new data, or you can just add more data to previous recording sessions (you can leave these discs open for further use if you wish).
Advanced DVD Rip and Burn does make converting your DVD videos into more portable formats easer. The overall output quality is excellent, and the ripping/conversion speed is fairly high.
